SEAWARD NORRIS MOSS states:-
I am 4th Engineer on the S.S. "Hong Hwa". On the 13th January 1925 I was on watch from 08.00 till 12.00 hours. At about 08.40 hours on that date whilst attending to the engine I say 2 men clamber down the steel ladder which runs up to the main deck. They produced revolvers and ordered me to remain where I was and to instruct the fireman and greaser to carry on as usual. At about 09.20 hours I was ordered at the point of the revolver to open the engine full out and I complied. I went off watch at 12.00 hours as usual but one of the pirates accompanied me to the top of the ladder. The pirates appeared to have a good working knowledge of ship's engines and also spoke a fair amount of English. They were both about the same build, being short and medium build. One of them had a dark complexion and I cannot further describe them as I had too much to think about. On searching my room everything was in order. I returned to the engine room at 12.30 hours to relieve the 3rd Engineer and upon my return to my room I found my Gillette safety razor and a nickel wetch valued $8.00 were missing. Some more ermed pirates come into my room and one of them asked me if I had any firearms; I told him to search and see for himself, which he did. He promised to return the articles which had been taken from me but did not do so. Since the attack commenced I have kept my regular watch every day as also have the other Engineers and from time to time they gave me various orders which I obeyed.. I was on watch at the time of their departure on the 16th and 2 pirates remained in the engine room all the while until five minutes before they all left the ship.
